Fluentd is data collection software designed to process data streams. It is open source software, which means that it is completely free to use and is constantly being refined by its user base. Fluentd enables you to unify your data collection and consumption methods so you can better understand and use data. Fluentd has a unified logging layer to separate back-end systems from important data sources. This unifies all aspects of data collection and processing, from collection to filtering, buffering, and output to multiple destinations. This unification helps keep data clear, concise, and accurate. Fluentd also has over five hundred plugins to stay connected to data sources and outputs. You can choose the plugins that meet your unique data collection needs. This keeps the main interface simple and easily navigable – there will never be anything in there that you don’t want. Unlike other data collection programs, Fluentd maintains a simplistic core, so you don’t waste time customizing and hiding different features. Fluentd is written in a combination of Ruby and C programming languages and requires very little system resources. The vanilla instance can run on 40 MB of memory while processing 13,000 events per second. There is also a lightweight alternative called Fluent Bit for people with more stringent memory requirements. More than five thousand data-driven companies currently use Fluentd, a proven software. The largest user of Fluentd currently collects data from over fifty thousand servers. Microsoft, Nintendo, and Amazon Web Services are just a few of the companies that use Fluentd.
