The key-value database, along with all layers, supports full, server-to-server, and server-to-server ACID transactions.

To remedy the lack of NoSQL database systems, David Rosenthal, Dave Scherer, and Nick Lavezzo released FoundationDB in 2009.

SaaS alternatives

CockroachDB : It allows you to deploy a database on-premises, in the cloud, or even across clouds, all as a single store. It is a simple and direct bridge to your future cloud-based data architecture.

MongoDB : MongoDB stores data in JSON-like documents that can vary in structure, providing a dynamic and flexible schema. MongoDB was also designed for high availability and scalability, with built-in replication and automatic partitioning.

Cassandra : Partitioning means that Cassandra can distribute your data across multiple machines as part of a seamless application. Cassandra will automatically repartition as machines are added and removed from the cluster. Row storage means that, like relational databases, Cassandra organizes data by rows and columns. Cassandra Query Language (CQL) is a close relative of SQL.

Redis : Redis is an advanced, open source, BSD-licensed key-value store. It is often called a data structure server because keys can contain strings, hashes, lists, sets, and ordered sets.

Couchbase : Developed as an alternative to traditionally rigid SQL databases, Couchbase NoSQL Database is built on an open source foundation and is designed to help developers solve real-world problems and meet highly scalable requirements.
